Imports of pork in August increased slightly compared to the July level, but its volumes remain insignificant, according to the analytical department of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders:
“According to preliminary estimates, in August, 183 tons (+ 22.6% compared to July) of chilled and frozen pork from the EU countries were imported to Ukraine at a cost of 446 thousand dollars. USD. The average customs value of imported pork slightly increased to 2.44 USD/kg. USD/kg, which is 0.48 USD more expensive than in July. USD more expensive than in July. However, total pork imports from abroad for the first eight months of 2024 are less than 2 thousand tons, which is four times lower than last year's imports for the same period. Thus, the upward correction of domestic prices in August was not enough to stimulate import activity, so the impact of this factor on the market situation remains insignificant,” the AUPB comments.
Exports this year, on the contrary, show positive dynamics, industry analysts add:
“Over the summer, supplies of Ukrainian pork abroad amounted to more than 1 thousand tons, which is twice as much as imports of raw materials, and in total for eight months they amounted to 2.02 thousand tons or 4.9 million dollars in foreign currency equivalent. Therefore, this year's exports have already doubled the total for 2023 and “balanced” the trade balance in pork,” the industry association informs. In addition to the usual markets in the UAE and Hong Kong, where 85% of pork exports were sent, Ukrainian pig products are paving the way for the markets of South Korea, Liberia, Bahrain, and Malaysia.
