Philippines: Vaccination Moves Forward Amidst Ongoing ASF Cases
As of March 28, the Philippines has vaccinated over 33,500 pigs with the AVAC ASF Live vaccine, across 32 farms, mainly in Central Luzon and Calabarzon. The Department of Agriculture (DA) reports high vaccine effectiveness and expects commercial approval by May.
Outbreaks remain active in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. In Bohol province alone, 36 communities have reported new cases.
Pork imports from Brazil rose 85% year-on-year in March, reflecting ASF-related domestic production losses.
Asia: New ASF Cases in India, South Korea, and Vietnam
In India’s Mizoram state, 2,360 pigs have died from ASF in March alone. The disease was confirmed in 43 communities across four districts.
South Korea reported just two new wild boar cases last week. ASF incidence is declining overall, despite increased surveillance.
Vietnam has reported 77 outbreaks across 22 provinces and cities so far this year, according to the FAO (as of April 3).
Europe: Romania and Poland Hit Hardest
According to the European Commission, 181 ASF outbreaks in domestic pigs have been confirmed in 7 European countries in 2025. Romania leads with 115 cases, followed by Moldova (32). Ukraine and Serbia reported 13 and 12 outbreaks, respectively.
Wild boar infections are even more severe: 5,082 cases reported across 17 countries. Top affected countries include Poland (1,758), Germany (1,005), and Latvia (579).

Germany: €14.5 Million Already Spent on ASF Control
In Hesse, since June 2024, 1,841 wild boars tested positive for ASF and 3,600 domestic pigs were culled. Disease control efforts have cost €14.5 million, including drone surveillance and the construction of 470 km of fencing. Farmers have received nearly €447,000 in compensation.
In Saxony, the situation has improved, and restrictions may be lifted soon.
Africa & Caribbean: New ASF Cases in South Africa and Dominican Republic
South Africa reported 3 new outbreaks in Eastern Cape, Gauteng, and North West provinces, including a commercial herd of 1,000 pigs.
In the Dominican Republic, 72 non-commercial farms have reported new outbreaks in four provinces. Authorities are preparing a compensation plan for affected pig owners and are increasing ASF surveillance, especially along the border with Haiti.
Classical Swine Fever: Cases Reappear in Japan and China
In Japan’s Miyazaki prefecture, a wild boar tested positive for Classical Swine Fever (CSF). The government launched emergency vaccination and increased surveillance.
China reported 15 CSF outbreaks in domestic pigs in the second half of 2024, with 6,819 animals affected across several provinces.
