Animal identification in Ukraine

Among the priorities of the State Service of Ukraine for the Protection of Consumer Rights is to ensure epizootic welfare, food safety for the population and expanding international markets.

An effective mechanism of traceability of agricultural animals and animal products in Ukraine is a modern system of animal identification, namely the Unified State Register of Animals.

By early 2023, according to the Unified State Register of Animals, in Ukraine there are:

Cattle — 1 975 890 heads (the most in Vinnitsa region. — (the largest number of cattle — 154,563 in Vinnitsa oblast, 154,563 in Poltava oblast and 151,894 in Cherkasy oblast). — (The largest number of cattle — 154,563 in Vinnitsa obl. — 130 052).

Sheep — 327 260 heads (the biggest number in Odesa obl. — 101 195, Khmelnytskyi region. — 32,632 and Transcarpathian region. — 34 749).

Pigs — 130 884 heads (the biggest number in Sumy region. — 15 800, Lviv region. — 13 165, Poltava region. 12 898).

Goats — 41−663 heads (the biggest number in Odesa region. — 7 551, Kyiv region. — 7062 in Kyiv region, 3788 in Lviv region. — 3788).

Horses — 18−176 heads (the most in Kyiv region. — 3913, Kharkiv region. — Kharkiv region — 1740, Odesa region. — 1154).
