Meat market in Ukraine will be scarce, and in overall terms, till 2014-2015 it will reach about 500 thousand tons. It was stated in an interview for “Kommersant-Ukraine” by Yuri Kosiuk, chairman of the board of Mironovslii Hleboproduct (MHP).

"We will increase production only in 2013 ...Now in Ukraine there is the other problem - the market ways. Retail chains practically ceased to open new points. We are increasing sales by grocery markets and franchise network. As far as I know, our competitors have no plans to significantly increase their production. Therefore, in the coming years the meat market in Ukraine will be scarce, and 2014-2015 in overall terms, it will reach about 500 thousand tons ", said Yuri Kosiuk.

According to him, the deficit stems from the fact that Ukraine does not support the creation of new facilities, whereas, for example, Russia is subsidizing domestic producers, and regulates imports through quotas.

"We expect that in the near future Russia will increase production, and a piece of meat imported into this country, is reoriented to the Ukraine. We have low import duties and there are prospects for growth in market size", said Yuri Kosiuk, and added that meat consumption in Ukraine is in average of 50 kg per capita per year, while in nearby countries 70 kg in average.
