Pigs are distinguished by different bio-economic characteristics: they are multifetatious which gives the opportunity to get 3-4 tons of meat per a sow a year, they are also omnivorous and have a high feed conversion, making twice less of forage consumed for a 1 kg of pork production compared to the forage consuming for 1 kg of beef production.
However, in most farms of Ukraine feed costs in the cost structure of pork are more than 70%. This situation on the background of long-term decline in prices for pigs in live weight forces the Ukrainian manufacturers seek answers to questions that assume whether time, efforts and money spent will bring the desirable result.
