“Considering inappropriate state support of agriculture, in the nearest future we can expect meat stockout in Ukraine”, - said Ivan Kyrylenko (leader of Yulia Tymoshenko’s fraction).
“After sugar stockout, buckwheat stockout, and now – flour stockout, we can definitely predict meat stockout for the nearest period”, he underlined.
Purchase prices for pork today are 30% below production cost, and it can cause total slaughter of the livestock.
In Kirilenko’s opinion, today the whole food security of Ukraine is under the threat, as far as spring field works mostly start under the conditions of "total lack of money". He underlined that for the first time in Ukrainian budget the item of farming enterprises support is off. Though, there are 45 thousand of them in our country.
Earlier, Ukrainian meat producers asked the government to minimize the import of cheap meat products, to restore state subsidies and promote the endogenous production of meat. According to their words, an increase of the prime cost of poultry and pork production, import of low-grade meat products at dumping prices and lack of government support could lead to a decrease of production and to a complete standstill for livestock and poultry farms. The meat producers called a number of events by which the domestic meat market may be stabilized.
