Ukraine bans imports of FMD susceptible animals from Siberian Federal District, their products and raw materials because of the registration on its territory the animal foot and mouth disease.

According to the State Committee of Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine, the ban is imposed from July, 26 this year.

The source of FMD infection for humans is infected animals, mainly dairy cows. Infection goes when using raw milk of sick animals, sometimes in contact with them. Mainly children get sick because they consume more milk than adults. Disease is not transmitted from person to person.

Young cloven-footed farm animals are most susceptible to infection.
