The government intends to purchase 10,000 tons of pork to the State Reserves, Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk told a meeting at the ministry.
According to him, the State Reserves should purchase on the market 10,000 tons of pork in slaughter weight at UAH 13-14/kilogram (USD 1/UAH 7.94). "For now, 32 transactions are concluded with processing enterprises," the Minister noted.
Prysiazhniuk noted that this year the state allocated UAH 5 billion for forward purchases, which should ensure partial financing of sowings and the products marketing at negotiated prices.
To remind, according to the Deputy Director General of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Olekdsandr Yaroslavsky, for now, the prices for pork in Ukraine are low, however this situation can change shortly. Thus, actually having no possibility to export pork to the foreign markets, producers will have to reduce pig heads which, as a result, will bring to a price growth. In order to avoid a price rise and to remove an access of goods from the market, the expert considers it expedient for the state to start pork purchases to the intervention fund.
